Welcome

Hi! My name is Steven Kraines, and this is my website.

You can contact me at steven at kraines dot net.

Here is a video of me giving a presentation (in English) a long time ago when I was (even) more naive and (much!) more innocent than now.

Here is a video of me giving a presentation (in Japanese) not so long ago when I was (just a bit) more naive and (just a bit) more innocent than now.

A bit about me (see my CV for more)...

In 1998, after finishing my PhD, I joined the faculty of the department of chemical system engineering in the University of Tokyo. From September 1998 to April 1999, I spent half a year as a visiting researcher at the MIT CAD laboratory. From July 2000 to January 2001, I visited the Swiss Federated Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) to work with Professor Daniel Favrat's group LENI on energy system optimization models.

In April 2005, I joined the newly established Science Integration program at the University of Tokyo. The program aims to develop methods and applications of integration of knowledge from field's of science related to the human organism. My particular role in the project is involved in the use of Information and Computer Technologies (ICT) - particularly semantic representations of knowledge, logical inference reasoners, and software agent system - in order to provide an Internet-based software infrastructure that could support sharing, discovery, and integration of scientific knowledge.

In April 2011, I joined the University of Tokyo Future Center Initiative, where I am developing a database system for knowledge related to scientific study on social interventions for creating more sustainable societies.
